The New L4 Vaccine

We are excited to introduce the new L4 Vaccine for Dogs.

What is L4 ?

L4 is the name of the latest vaccine protecting dogs against Leptospirosis.

What is Leptospirosis?

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease which can affect many animals; It is a zoonotic disease, meaning it can be passed from animals to humans so it is vitally important that dogs are vaccinated to prevent infection and spread. It is caused by a particularly nasty group of bacteria of which there are several strains.

The bacteria can thrive in warm, humid areas, and are often found in stagnant water (e.g. ponds). Dogs with a higher potential for exposure to contaminated water and wild animals are at a greater risk (e.g. rural areas, farm and hunting dogs). Adult dogs, males, and large breed dogs appear to have a higher rate of infection; however, any dog can be exposed, since town wildlife such as rodents may also carry the bacteria.

The new L4 vaccine protects against four of the most common strains of the disease which is double the protection of the old L2 vaccine, this is great news for your pets!

What does this mean to dog owners?

When your dog is next due its annual booster vaccination, simply bring them in as normal and our fantastic vets will update your dog’s vaccination, giving a second vaccine 4 weeks later for free, this is to ensure your dog receives maximum protection.  This upgrade is free if you join our Pet Health Club and is automatic now for all new pups at just £35 for the course.

L4 Vaccine

For new dog owners who are just starting their dog’s vaccinations, your new puppy can take advantage of this offer too.

The vaccination course is as follows:

•1st vaccination at 8 weeks old (Parvo, Hepatitis, Distemper and Lepto)

•2nd vaccination at 10 weeks old (Parvo, Hepatitis, Distemper)

•3rd vaccination at 12 weeks old (Lepto).

Your puppy will be protected against Parvovirus, Hepatitis and Distemper 1 week after the 2nd vaccination, so at your discretion can begin socialisation.  We strongly advise avoiding high risk areas such as ponds, streams, canals etc. during this time.

Full immunity against the above and Leptospirosis will be achieved after 1 week following the 3rd vaccination.
